My mother who is almost 79 years old was admitted after being found in the street with a head injury, scrapes on her face and hand, a large lump on the back of her head, and later diagnosed with a brain bruise, bleeding, and a concussion. She had also previously broken her femur a year ago and loses her balance easily. Last night when she was admitted, I specifically asked the nurse to call me before she was discharged because she cannot safely go home alone. I wrote down my name and phone number and was assured someone would call me. No one did. Today, my mother called me herself to say she was being discharged. I was shocked. I immediately told her she could not leave alone and asked to speak to the nurse. I was told a case manager would call me. Instead, my mother called me again minutes later — this time from the hospital lobby. She had been taken downstairs in a hospital wheelchair, left there alone with her belongings, and no staff member stayed with her. She was expected to figure out how to get home by herself after a concussion and with a history of a serious leg fracture. I had to order her an Uber and she had to get the driver’s attention and manage getting into the car on her own. Being “alert” does not mean someone is physically safe to navigate home alone. I clearly requested to be notified and was assured I would be. That did not happen. Families trust hospitals to ensure safe discharge planning, especially after a head injury. What happened to my mother should not happen to anyone. I felt helpless and completely let down. I hope this review prompts serious reflection and change.

Need motivation to live a healthy lifestyle? This emergency room has your back! They will ensure that you never want to see the inside of another hospital ever again. As a woman, I've lost all respect for the women who work in this emergency room. Not one made the slightest attempt at empathy or understanding my pain. Extremely disappointing, especially in Boston. If you come in describing specific symptoms and your chart says anxiety and you never mentioned anxiety, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. They will do everything in their power to convince you you're having a mental breakdown and not an actual medical emergency. I really don't understand how healthcare workers at this hospital sleep at night knowing they let patients suffer for 7+ hours, are satisfied with downplaying legitimate symptoms, and then are ok with kicking them to the curb afterward. I expect so much more from the state of Massachusetts. This has got to be an elaborate prank. (P.S. I've been here multiple times and have already left reviews about my past experiences on my main account. After this last trip where the things I mentioned above literally happened to me, I'm over it but my only hope is that this review will allow others to go to another hospital that will do a better job.)

DO NOT COME HERE unless you are actively dying. The people who work here would rather have a doctor who puts their patients' lives at risk than stand up for the patient who is suffering. If that's your cup of tea, this is the emergency room for you! UPDATE: Due to the staff's lack of care for the prolonged muscle spasms and weakness I felt for 6 hours, I can barely walk now so I'd like to take this moment to thank you for doing absolutely nothing but watch me suffer the entire time. I voluntarily decided to be admitted into their inpatient psych facility in Deaconess 4 under the advisory of the psychiatrist. Don't get me wrong I met some amazing people but the weekend doctors increased my medication and I experienced debilitating side affects that affected my daily life after I was discharged. The next day my symptoms got worse so I went to the emergency room to get checked out. I was met with "you look relaxed to me" and everything looks normal so idk. Yeah because a heart rate over 100 is normal and uncontrollable muscle spasms in all of the muscles is normal. I had to keep on advocating for myself hard and then they finally admitted that it was indeed the doctor's fault. They did the bare minimum of reducing my dosage so you get one light clap for that but never received any treatment to eleviate my symptoms. I was told "well you can't change the past" true but you're just covering for each other like a street gang. I don't need to file a complaint because the reviews on here speak for themselves. Please note: I had other symptoms, didn't wanna make this too long.

I gave a 2 only because the nurses were nice. Had all the diagnostics done right away (labs, EKG, chest x-ray). Even got my lab results rather quickly on my phone. Five hours later, then I saw a doctor who wasn't even interested in what I had to say. He didn't do a proper exam. He said, "We'll get a chest x-ray..." to which I replied, "That was already done." He had to go look at it. He ordered IV fluids and IV Tylenol. Why did I need fluids? No reason, just routine (labs all normal, not dehydrated). No thank you. They weren't happy that i refused until I told them I'm an NP. I don't need that. Plus, I can take Tylenol at home. What an awful experience!

Incredible emergency department. Came in on a Friday evening after progress from a slip and fall a couple weeks prior had halted. They’d given me an X-Ray within a half hour of arriving to the ED, diagnosed me with a fractured hip 5 minutes after that, and had a plan immediately after that. All told, I ended up going inpatient after that, but they did the lion’s share of the pre op workup out of the ED. I went from triage to the trauma floor within 5 and a half hours. Efficient and empathetic specialized care. What more could you ask for?
