Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital took excellent care of both me and my cockatiel Koko during a minor emergency. Koko is a special needs girlie and gets daily meds. While administering her oral medication, I accidentally got some up her nose (note to the pet parents of tiny critters... slow and steady wins the medication administration race). My primary vet, Chicago Exotics, did not have the space for her that day. MBEAH came through in a pinch. I was able to bring Koko in and their kind team treated her and kept her overnight for monitoring. Dr. Biancalana provided text and phone updates even though there were several emergencies and surgeries on her agenda. The front desk team were kind, helpful, and informative. I recommend Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital to anyone in the Chicago land area with a big heart for their scaled, feathered, fur, and finned family.

FIND ANY OTHER PRACTICE!! Midwest Exotics killed my healthy bearded dragon July 2025. One of the doctors performed a routine procedure of expressing my beardie’s impacted femoral pores and went too hard, sent him home to me covered in blood, and he became septic and unresponsive within a day. I had to rush back and have him euthanized. They charged me almost a grand. During his euthanasia, a tech at Midwest Exotics told me that doing such an intense procedure all at once on an older reptile like they did is too stressful on their bodies and can cause heart failure. The “professionals” who performed the extractions the day and a half prior should have been well aware of that and given me informed consent. I typically do the extractions myself over the course of a week, but his pores were impacted because I was unable to care for him for some time while I was dealing with pregnancy complications and was in the hospital. Because he wasn’t getting his usual care, he was slightly dehydrated. I admitted to the vet that I had not been caring for him to the best of my abilities because I was 3 weeks postpartum. When she heard that, she started listing off all sorts of other things that he needed, and pressured me into performing other procedures on him while he was there, including a fluid bolus and vitamin injection. I of course said yes because I trust professionals, and there’s nothing I won’t do to take care of my pets. Looking back, I was definitely taken advantage of because of my current mental state. I had been raising my beardie for almost 15 years. I had taken him to the practice before for a surgery in the past with no issue two years prior. I trusted them. The doctor who did his surgery two years prior has since left the practice. However now, because of the negligence at Midwest Exotics, my boy is gone, and he went out incredibly painfully. No one deserves this. I spoke with the practice manager, she at first said that what happened to him was not their fault. I then asked for and obtained his medical records and they then admitted their guilt, and gave me a complete refund. However this truly doesn’t feel like enough. When I picked up my beardie’s remains from Eternal Memories in Willowbrook, the staff member who assisted me asked me about my beardie, and I told them what Midwest Exotics did to him. They told me that they have clients “sent to them all the time for very similar situations from Midwest Exotics.” This practice has been killing people’s healthy pets for some time, and in my opinion, needs to be shut down and the veterinarians there need their licenses revoked. No one should ever have to go through a traumatic loss of their healthy and loved pet, especially at the hands of professionals that you’re supposed to trust. I raised my beardie from a hatchling and cared for him for over 13 years, he didn’t deserve to die the way that he did. I hope that this review helps even a single person. Thank you for reading. Had an emergency visit today to treat my python and every other pet hospital within an hour was closed for the weekend at only 2 PM, but not here! Little Rotini was extremely well taken care of, and quite promptly too. All the staff were extremely well-educated, friendly, sweet, and patient. His vet, Dr. Mueller, explained everything thoroughly and was wonderfully empathetic, relating to a similar case her own snake had dealt with and recovered from. I'd called at least eight or nine other vets looking for someone who could treat a ball python, only to be turned to other locations or meet an answering machine. I was able to get an emergency visit scheduled here within about an hour. The visit was a little costly but it *was* an emergency visit, and in my opinion it was a small and reasonable price to pay for the prompt and most excellent service, as well as security in knowing my little guy is healthy and receiving treatment. I don't leave many reviews but this place really impressed me and deserves the five stars! Thank you all!

I've had a guinea pig die after waiting 2 hours for an emergency appointment because they didn't think it was an emergency and they continued to take regular appointments. Thankfully the guinea pig i took in today didn't have an emergency, he had a scheduled appointment. But I still waited while countless animals came in and out. After an hour of still waiting someone came in for a bird appointment cause it had been laying eggs. They were able to go right in and be seen immediately (i heard the doctor in the next room). The employees bring their personal pets in too. Are paying customers or animals with emergencies waiting so you can take care or your own pet? Do you guys take appointments based on favorites? Do you just not care about certain animals? Response to business: When I came in for an emergency visit previously my guinea pig Butters had to wait 2 hours because I was told emergency appointments are taken when there's time between regularly scheduled appointments and that his didn't seem like an emergency. He had a kidney stone and I paid something like 1000 for surgery to remove it because shocker, once he was finally seen they realized it was an emergency. Well it was too late, his urethra had burst and I had to put him down. I will never know if he could have been saved but I do know I acted immediately and this vet did not. Now back to my most recent appointment. I'm sure there were emergencies however. Like I already said, people were coming in for regularly scheduled appointments and being seen before me. The specific incident I described was categorically not an emergency. That person never sat down and a doctor was in their room immediately. Whatever emergencies you had that day had nothing to do with my situation. Someone came in for a yearly check up as well. I was there, I have ears, and you are lying. Why do some pets emergencies get treated urgently and others dont? Why do some people go into the rooms with their pets while other pets are taken to the back while we wait for a call?

These Vets are the best. They took care of my pet Suzy. The doctor trimmed her beak and toe nails. She did an awesome job. My Suzy🐢 looks pretty😊. Prices are affordable. There is no price when you love your pet. The counter nurses were super friendly. I give this place 5 stars. I highly recommend this place for your pet friend.
