Disclaimer: if you can’t afford the price of *their services they will recommend euthanasia. Brought my dog that was in shock in for emergency services and they gave him medication, within 20 minutes of being there told me he wasn’t improving it would be 3-4k for the hospital stay when I said I did not have the kind of money they strongly recommended I euthanize my dog. I even brought up taking him home and to his regular vet when it opened and they tried to convince me he was going to suffer and the most humane thing was to euthanize. 3 vets looked me in the eye and said he wouldn’t make it, their mistake was letting him walk into the goodbye room. The dog I brought in could not walk, the dog they wanted me to euthanize was walking and wagging his tail. Me and my dog walked out of there, were charged for a euthanasia they did not preform, 4 days later have not been refunded and when I called to ask about his collar they hung up on me. My dog survived btw, I took him to his local vet when they opened and they were able to fix him up for less than $500. They agreed he had plenty of fight left in him. Not sure if it was breed related but he is a pitbull. I’m convinced the shots they gave him when we got there saved his life, but they either were unwilling to give him time or just did not have the compassion I would hope to expect from this next generation of veterinarians.

DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE, I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH. August 1, 2025 my cat had a prolapsed rectum, I brought her to VEG in Winter Park, FL. She ended up prolapsing again, to which the Vet at VEG recommended that I prepare myself incase it happens again, she said my cat would need a Colopexy (a surgical procedure to permanently attach the rectum to the abdominal wall.) I spent the following week calling every surgical vet within a few hours of central FL + UF gave me a decent quote and said they'd be able to take her in the case of an emergency. I had VEG send all of the records to UF days in advance so they'd already have them worst case scenario. I got off of work after closing, and got home around 3am on 8/15, my cats rectum had prolapsed again. I called UF to tell them I was on the way, they informed me surgeons would be in at 8am. I had VEG send the records over again, and I got to UF around 6:30am on 8/15. I told them she had a prolapsed rectum and she needed the colopexy, they wanted to run tests. At 5pm they called me back to talk and they informed me they were under the impression it was cancer and they they'd take a biopsy and I'd hear back Monday from the oncology dept. They left her rectum prolapsed, told me it was a mass and to rub an ointment on it multiple times a day while leaving a cone on my cat. On 8/17 I brought my cat back to VEG to where I was informed it was an untreated prolapsed rectum, and the tissue had died and she clearly had an infection now. Because of UF's NEGLECT I had to euthanize my 9 year old cat. On 8/19 I received a call from UF's oncology dept to inform me that my cat did not have cancer. I spent over $4000 trying to save my cat and UF took away her chance of survival bc they were too ignorant to trust the other Drs that were familiar with the case, or myself. R.I.P. Canela

I stopped here while driving across the country. They were quick to assess my dog and help give me the OK to continue driving and plan to get her to her veterinarian. Everyone was friendly, honest and I can’t believe they didn’t even charge me. It meant the world to me to know that I was doing the right thing driving her back home. Thanks to everyone at UF!

General Email Account

They were really good at several things; 1) tallying up lots of bills for us with no concrete diagnosis provided, 2) making us wait around for hours with no updates on our pet unless we persistently asked, 3) just general lack of empathy for pet owners during our pet's health scare. Not impressed at all almost $4K later... Definitely not worth the drive here "for the best care". That didn't happen. We were sent here from the WEC location in Ocala. They prepped her and told us Gainesville was expecting us ("hurry there") and they'd take her right in for surgery. When we got to Gainesville, the people at the front desk couldn't care less when I checked in. Took a long time to have someone come out and get her from us. Then while we thought they had her in emergency surgery, they flipped the script and did other tests instead. Good thing as the surgery wasn't needed. Bad thing because we were left in the dark not knowing plans had changed. They kept coming up with more tests to do, more $ estimates I had to approve, and then endless waiting (hours) for results/prognosis. Just for giggles... How about coming up with an information sheet to give to out-of-town visitors that provide info on nearby restaurants, coffee shops, conv. stores, hotels, gas stations, etc.? That would be a nice gesture during a difficult time.

Brought my parakeet Muffy in and had it examined and tested by Dr Haley Arena. She was horrible. No communication with us after waiting 4 hours in the waiting room. When she did speak to us she used terminology I didn’t understand, and even asking her to explain it a different way, she had an attitude of superiority. I told her more than once we have never had a bird before so really didn’t know a lot period. She definitely only possesses one way communication skills. We had to wait 2 days for test results. Could not tell me the odds or prognosis another words is it worth treating Muffy or is it feudal. She just stared at me when I asked. $500 later my poor little Muffy passed away. This place is a big joke. Your pets are their Guinea pigs. I feel Muffy was put through hell for no reason. My god, even the people that worked the bagel shop didn’t speak English, so that was interesting trying to order food and a drink. Overall, very disappointed in the experience and will never be back and certainly will inform others who live in The Villages about my experience. We will see if the Director or Manager cares enough after reading this to call me, because I have more examples of her incompetence. RIP-Muffy you were so special to me and smart and you knew many words and phrases. But I will miss your car alarm sound the most!!! 🥲
