This vet gets 5 stars. Dr. Thaliath was thorough answering and treating my suck pup last week. She explained what my pup’s issue probably was and gave treatment options. She’ll spend quality time with you unlike many human primary care docs! We were impressed and felt good after the visit. We followed her advice and now my baby is much better. What a relief knowing she is going to be ok. Dr. Thaliath is a superb vet. I called today to get OTC ointment advice and once again quick accurate advice was provided. Our experience at SAGE Veterinary Centers in Redwood City was nothing short of exceptional, and I feel compelled to share how grateful we are for the entire team that cared for us and our eight-month-old German Shepherd, Remington. Remington was recently diagnosed with elbow dysplasia and early arthritis, and as any pet parent would understand, my husband and I are absolutely torn about whether to move forward with surgery. This visit was a second opinion for us—and ultimately the best decision we could have made. We were referred to SAGE by Remington’s primary care veterinarian, Dr. Dania Shrik, DVM at VCA San Martin, who has been absolutely phenomenal. Her confidence, compassion, and clinical judgment were the main reason we decided to seek care at SAGE, and we are so thankful we trusted her recommendation. From the moment we walked in—on New Year’s Eve, no less—we were met with kindness, professionalism, and warmth. The fact that SAGE operates 24/7 is remarkable in itself, but what truly stood out was the genuine care shown by every staff member. The check-in team was welcoming and patient, and Remington was treated with gentleness and respect throughout our visit. We met with Dr. Alice Bugman, and she was outstanding. She was direct and honest—never sugar-coating the realities—but delivered everything with compassion and clarity. She took the time to thoroughly explain the diagnosis, the surgical options, and most importantly, the pros and cons of proceeding versus waiting. We never once felt rushed, pressured, or dismissed. Her bedside manner with both us and Remington was exceptional, and her depth of knowledge gave us tremendous confidence in her as a surgeon. Our hesitation has nothing to do with the quality of care or the expertise at SAGE. It comes purely from fear—fear of surgery, fear of anesthesia, and fear of how a 6–8 week recovery with limited movement might impact a very energetic, rambunctious German Shepherd puppy. The decision feels enormous, and we remain in limbo simply because we love our dog so deeply and want to do what is best for his long-term quality of life. That said, our experience at SAGE has absolutely shifted us toward trust. Trust in the clinic. Trust in the staff. And trust in Dr. Bugman as a surgeon who genuinely has Remington’s best interests at heart. We were previously told by another veterinarian that SAGE would not be the right place for our dog, and we are so grateful we sought another opinion and changed Remington’s primary care provider. Choosing VCA San Martin and following Dr. Shrik’s recommendation to visit SAGE was one of the best decisions we’ve made for Remington. While we are still settling our nerves and carefully weighing our next steps, we cannot say enough good things about SAGE Veterinary Centers in Redwood City. I have only ever had pleasant experiences with Sage. My cat gets a dental cleaning every 12 to 16 months and Dr. Joo and her team from the dentistry department are amazing. Dr. Joo is always clear with what to expect from a procedure and with post care instructions. My cat has a heart murmur and during his most recent cleaning, I brought him in without getting an updated cardio ultrasound (totally on me for forgetting to ask if a more recent one was needed). Sage called me within an hour of me dropping him off to let me know and their cardiology department was able to squeeze him in for the echo that same day before his dental procedure. They also sent me an estimate for me to approve prior to them starting treatment. Their estimates always include the lower range and the higher range so there are no surprises. I'm very grateful to be a client here! Yes they are pricey, but I'm happy to pay for the quality of care they provide.
